2019 BCOM HONOURS MARKETING
During my Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree, I gained practical experience by working with various industry clients such as Discovery Medical Health Scheme, SANParks, Seriously Addicted Mathematics, Consulta, Italtile, Heartfelt Arena, and Major Tech. In teams, we were given a brief and had two weeks to create a campaign/strategy, a client report, and a presentation, which we then presented to a panel consisting of the company's representatives and our lecturers. This experience provided me with valuable insights into the real-world application of marketing concepts.
For my research project, which was completed in a team with my peers, we investigated the factors that drive and inhibit mobile advertising adoption among University of Pretoria students using the Technology Readiness Index 2.0 constructs, namely Optimism, Innovation, Discomfort, and Insecurity.
As part of the syllabus, I needed to make a skills portfolio to showcase my skills learnt from the year. Below is the website I created on Wix.com.
Due to COVID, I was not able to attend my Honours graduation. The University of Pretoria arranged a virtual celebration which I have included.
2016-2018 BCOM ECONOMICS & MANAGEMENT SCIENCE
During my Bachelor of Commerce degree, I chose to major in Marketing, Business, and Statistics. In my first two years, I also studied Economics.
While living at Klaradyn, a women's residence, I participated in two organizations: TuksRAG and TRWLA. For two years, I volunteered with TuksRAG to help give back to communities. In my third year, I became a facilitator for TRWLA, which stands for TuksRes Women in Leadership Academy. This program is designed to empower women in leadership through service, networking, and skills development with a focus on mentorship. As a facilitator, I had to navigate difficult conversations and engage with students who had diverse opinions and beliefs. Despite these challenges, I was able to deliver engaging lessons that made everyone feel heard and respected. As a result of my efforts, I was awarded the Most Improved Public Speaker at the end of the year.
In 2019, I was invited to attend the Golden Key welcome ceremony based on my academic achievements in my second year. I was re-invited the following year based on my results in my third year.
Overall, my involvement in TuksRAG and TRWLA allowed me to develop valuable skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, which I believe will be assets in my future career endeavours.
Due to my unique combination of subjects in the BCom general degree, I was invited by the Dean to serve as the brand ambassador for the program in 2019. As part of my role, I spoke to prospective students for the 2020 academic year about my academic journey and how I navigated my degree with my chosen majors. I was also featured in the brochure for that year, contributing a column about my experiences.
The following year, I was once again approached to share my insights on concluding my studies at the University of Pretoria and my current career path. As a result, a video was created, which can be viewed on Facebook by clicking the link provided.
